Africa covers an area of about 30,221,532 km2 (11.7 million square miles) including contiguous islands, which is about 20.4% of Earth’s land area. As of 2018, it has a population of 1,276 million, accounting for approximately 16% of the world's population. There are 54 nations in Africa, South Africa is the most economically developed country, while Algeria is the largest country.
